Tell us about your role and your main focus
I’m a consultant, so I work when requested. This means I might be called to cover when my colleagues are hard pressed, or perhaps if the job is far away.

What key skills or experience specifically make you shine?
I like my reports to be readable and well illustrated; they incorporate decades of experience. I like to think that my photography skills are good too. And my years of experience means that I am able to work quickly for urgent jobs!

What’s the best thing about your job?
Getting out and about and seeing new things all the time. There’s always something to make you think, even after seeing the thousands of properties I’ve viewed over the years. Researching old maps, or checking subsoil data is good too – I find that really interesting.

What’s the biggest challenge in your work?
Puzzling out stuff that’s not immediately obvious, such as sources of mysterious moisture, bad work that’s been hidden, or strange plumbing.

What do you think makes Desbruslais a great company to be part of?
Desbruslais is a warm and friendly environment and my colleagues are great to work with. Will that get me another drink, boss?!

What does your perfect weekend look like?
A mix of culture – theatre, film, museum or gallery – a long solo bike ride, and time with family and friends.
