Director & CEO

Robert Desbruslais

BSc MRICS

Tell us about your role and your main focus
As CEO, no two days are the same. Although hands-on surveying is still the main aspect of my role, there are usually plenty of curve balls to address as the day goes on. Thankfully we have an amazing supportive team that can handle the enquiries, allowing me to get on with representing the business and securing new clients.

What key skills or experience specifically make you shine?
Strategic thinking. I also have a deep knowledge of period construction and defects, and give regular talks on construction and listed building matters. So I’m well placed to understand and explain the implications of purchasing a structurally complex building.

What’s the best thing about your job?
Flexibility. Three days a week I go to the gym before I start my day, and this keeps me fit and healthy as well as thinking clearly.

What’s the biggest challenge in your work?
Keeping my finger on the pulse of a business where all company members are home based.

What do you think makes Desbruslais a great company to be part of?
Reputation, the quality of the jobs and the end product. I’m also hugely proud of my team and the way we all work together and support the business.

What does your perfect weekend look like?
Pottering with my wife Claire, followed by a meal out, going to our community allotment, taking my grandson to see a Brighton game, and playing a gig with my band. Rarely can I fit it all in!
